Il progetto “River Garden” ha portato alla riqualificazione del cortile interno del settecentesco complesso “Ex Collegio dei Gesuiti” ad Alessandria, stabile che ospita alloggi di Edilizia Residenziale Pubblica e associazioni culturali. Tra queste il centro coworking Lab121 che, nel 2013, ha coinvolto lo IED di Roma nel progetto della corte, al fine di incentivarne la fruizione dei residenti, dei coworkers e di tutta la cittadinanza. Agli studenti sono stati forniti degli esempi progettuali da seguire: architetture temporanee, leggere e flessibili, capaci di ridisegnare lo spazio senza invaderlo. Nella primavera del 2013 è stato creato uno sportello “Urban Center temporaneo”, ricettore di proposte sul ruolo del nuovo spazio pubblico: i progetti degli studenti sono stati votati dai cittadini ed il vaglio dei suggerimenti espressi è servito ad apportare migliorie nella successiva fase esecutiva. Gli architetti Luca Zanon e Irene Cerruti hanno lavorato sulla base dell’idea più votata definendo una proposta progettuale specifica, apprezzata per la presenza di aiuole verdi, pedana in legno e arredi mobili. Nel maggio del 2016 è stata inaugurata la nuova piazza urbana: sulla pedana in legno, quotidianamente utilizzata dai coworkers come spazio di lavoro, si sono avvicendati gruppi musicali che hanno intrattenuto i tanti cittadini presenti, chiamati anche a personalizzare il loro rinnovato spazio verde con la piantumazione di fiori.
The “River Garden” project led to the redevelopment of the internal courtyard of the eighteenth-century complex “Ex Collegio dei Gesuiti” in Alessandria, a public building with residential housing and cultural associations. Among these the Lab121 coworking center which, in 2013, involved the IED of Rome in the project of the courtyard, in addition to encouraging the use of residents, collaborators and all citizens. All the students were used by the design examples to follow: temporary, light and flexible architectures, provided by redesigning the space without invading it. In the spring of 2013 a “temporary urban center” desk was created, receiving proposals on the role of the new public space: the students’ projects were voted on by the citizens and the sifting of the suggestions made served to make improvements in the subsequent execution phase. Architects Luca Zanon and Irene Cerruti worked on the basis of the most voted idea defining a specific design proposal, appreciated for the presence of green flower beds, wooden platform and mobile furniture. In May 2016 the new urban square was inaugurated: on the wooden platform, used daily by co-workers, musical groups took turns that entertained the many citizens present, also called to customize their green space.
